The Women's Institute - Vintage China Appreciation

Last July Clare and myself had a fantastic day taking part in the Queen's Royal Visit to Worcester. Not only did we get in spitting distance (ahem, sorry Ma'am!) of her Maj, but we got to help out at a fabulous 1950s-themed tea party hosted by the lovely ladies of Worcestershire WIs.

We completely fell in love with the official WI tea sets and crockery which we were told dated from the 1930s. Here it is from the day, laid out with WI homemade cakes and floral centre pieces:

Since then I've been slightly obsessed with all things vintage WI and have been stalking eBay for any goodies. Last week eBay came up trumps with a two set piece of side plate and bon bon dish, yippee!

A handy, collectable size too!

I'm using the small dish as a trinket holder...

...which is now home to my vintage, cWWII Women's Institute pin badge, another eBay find from a while ago:

A brand new Worcester city WI has recently formed. The Worcester Belles meet on the 2nd Monday of each month and we're joining! We've been to one very friendly meeting and looking forward to the next. It's a real mix of ages too, we're not even the youngest!

I love that tea service, I really shouldn't be shown any more though, I collect enough as it is! I'd love to join the WI, if only for the gossip! Hope your group is more lively than my local one - Have fun :)

Thanks Jennie! It's such a nice set isn't it? I'd love one or two of the teacups! They seem like quite a lively bunch at the Worcester WI so far, but I don't have a very good track record of joining groups, so we shall see how it goes!!
